SUMMARY:StorySlam: Birth Stories
DESCRIPTION:Best Babies Zone (BBZ) is a place-based\, multi-sector approach to reducing disparities in infant mortality and birth outcomes by mobilizing community residents and organizational partners to address the social and economic determinants of health. Milwaukee’s Westlawn neighborhood was awarded this national designation in 2017. \nBBZ Westlawn encompasses Milwaukee’s Choice Neighborhood\, a 3-square mile region on Milwaukee’s Northwest Side anchored by the Westlawn Gardens neighborhood. Co-led by the City of Milwaukee’s Choice Neighborhood Initiative\, City of Milwaukee Health Department and United Way\, it prioritizes the development of strong community leaders who build social networks to address community-identified challenges. It builds the capacity of residents to develop and advocate for their vision: a Westlawn where all babies thrive and all families are successful. \nEx Fabula coaches have been working with community members of the Westlawn Gardens to craft their individual Birth Stories!
