ย Ex Fabula is a 501 c 3 nonprofit that connects Milwaukee through real stories. Our vision is a radically inclusive community that honors the dignity of all people, so we leverage personal stories to help community members grow, connect, and heal. Our programs include a season of public StorySlams and workshops, collaborations with businesses, schools, and nonprofits, and media partnerships that extend the reach of stories told onstage.

We are seeking an experienced marketing professional to strategize and implement all marketing and communications efforts for Ex Fabula. Our small but mighty team works partly from home and partly at Fruition MKE. The schedule is variable with some evenings and weekends required; weekly in-person meetings will take place during regular business hours.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Create and implement marketing and communications strategies that build awareness of Ex Fabula and increase community engagement in our programs. Regularly evaluate the success of the strategies and refine them in response to changing needs.
  • Manage all aspects of media / public relations including creating and distributing press releases, responding to media inquiries, and representing Ex Fabula at events.
  • Gather event information from other staff and use it to develop and produce event marketing materials, including flyers and posters, e-newsletters, social media campaigns, print mailings, and ads for Google Adwords and other platforms.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director to grow the number of Ex Fabula members by designing and sending print and e-mail solicitations and updating Ex Fabula membership materials.
  • Manage Ex Fabulaโ€™s social media platforms (currently Facebook, Bluesky, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, and YouTube, though these may be updated in the marketing strategy).
  • Maintain and update Ex Fabulaโ€™s WordPress website. Includes posting products and events to our WooCommerce e-ticketing platform, posting and blogs, updating project pages, monitoring web traffic, and working with a contractor to resolve technical problems as needed.
  • Produce Real Stories Milwaukee on 89.7 WUWM; includes consulting Ex Fabula staff as needed for story selection and producing episodes in collaboration with contracted hosts and audio engineer, as well as the WUWM team.
  • Oversee and manage the marketing budget; includes participating in annual budget preparation.
  • Collaborate with storytelling coaches and volunteers who support marketing and communications efforts by tabling at community events, writing blog posts, and taking snapshots / videos.
  • Contract and oversee designers, event photographers, audio engineers, and radio show hosts; ensure that all deliverables are organized in Ex Fabulaโ€™s files and shared with partners.
  • Secure media sponsors for Ex Fabula programs and document trade agreements; create images or copy for media partners according to the agreed upon timelines.

Qualifications: ย 

  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and access; ability to work well within diverse communities, including the ability to foster brave spaces and interrupt harm.
  • 3+ years PR/marketing experience (formal or informal), including experience designing and implementing marketing strategies for live events.
  • Ability to communicate passionately with a wide range of audiences in multiple formats.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, to take initiative, and to manage multiple tasks and projects at a time.
  • Strategic and judicious decision-making with consistent follow-through and attention to detail.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications and cloud platforms like Dropbox.
  • Experience updating websites.
  • Reliable transportation to event locations around Milwaukee County.
  • 21+ to ensure access to all event locations.

ย ย  ย Preferred:

  • Graphic design, audio editing, and/or video editing skills and experience.
  • Experience with WordPress CMS and/or experience with e-commerce platforms.
  • Proficient in Spanish, ASL, Hmong or other languages that would enable local relationship building.

This is a full-time, salaried position reporting to the Executive Director. The salary range is $47,000 – $51,000 plus travel and cell phone reimbursement, a healthcare stipend, and a generous PTO policy.
