Job Location:               Milwaukee, WI

Start Date:                     early July 2017

Employment Type:       Salaried, full time position. Variable schedule with some evenings and weekends required.

Compensation:             $31,200 plus stipends for healthcare and cell phone.

Reporting to:                Executive Director

 

Position Description

Ex Fabula is a Milwaukee nonprofit that strengthens community bonds through the art of storytelling. Our programs include monthly StorySlams, public Storytelling workshops, a radio show, and community collaborations that allow Milwaukeeans of all stripes to be heard, to listen to true personal stories and to meaningfully connect.

The Event Producer (EP) will plan and implement Ex Fabula storytelling events while building and strengthening relationships with volunteers, contractors, event attendees, and community partners. This position offers the opportunity to complete some work remotely once training is complete; weekly in-person meetings with the Executive Director will take place during regular business hours.

Responsibilities:

  • Event planning and implementation
    • Produce Ex Fabula events, which generally include the following annually:
      • Monthly public StorySlams (working with Slam Lords Committee)
      • 3-5 small member events (working with Membership Committee)
      • 12 events featuring Ex Fabula Fellows
      • 4 public Storytelling workshops
      • 6-12 Curated StorySlams and 15-25 Storytelling workshops as part of Community Collaborations
    • Coordinate storyteller selection and preparation (workshops, one-on-one coaching) for curated events.
    • Visit partners and venues and communicate with them regarding event planning and logistics.
    • Schedule contractors as needed (storytelling coaches, photo, video, sound engineer, etc)
    • Communicate with Volunteer scheduler about volunteers needs; ensure events are adequately staffed.
    • Prepare print materials and supplies.
    • Manage budgets and contractor invoices.
    • Serve as Stage Manager at all events.
  • Marketing
    • Write and proofread marketing content including press releases, flyer text, blogs, and social media posts.
    • Add events and marketing content to online e-ticketing platform.
    • Distribute print and electronic marketing materials.
  • Metrics and Monitoring:
    • Collect event data (numbers, attendee contact information, story descriptions, and surveys)
    • Analyze event data and use it to continually improve Ex Fabula processes and products.
    • Share event data and feedback with volunteers, contractors, and partners.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience working effectively within diverse communities within Milwaukee
  • Excellent interpersonal and written and oral communication skills
  • Commitment to Ex Fabula’s mission and our values of inclusion and access.
  • Three years project management or event planning experience
  • Ability to take ownership of multiple projects and work independently while setting appropriate priorities.
  • Ability to proactively troubleshoot during event planning and implementation
  • Experience with computers, Microsoft Office applications, and cloud platforms including Dropbox and Box.com.
  • 21+ as many events are in bars
