This Brave Space workshop is an affinity space offered at no cost to Black and Brown community members.
Date: Thursday, November 19, 2026 Time: 5:30 doors, 5:45 to 6:45 pm workshop Location: Radio Milwaukee, 220 E Pittsburgh Ave, Milwaukee, WI 53204 New to storytelling? Or in need of a refresh on the basics? Want to practice a story to tell at our StorySlam? This interactive workshop is for you! This workshop takes place directly before the StorySlam and is meant to be a place to workshop a story you might want to tell on-stage later that night. If you aren't ready to throw your name in the hat, no worries! This space is open to anyone who is interested in becoming a better storyteller, and is a perfect way for you to connect with other storytellers before our StorySlam! Take your storytelling to the next level by sharing on stage at AfterDark: For the Culture on November 19! Gut Feelings: Stories of inexplicable notions, perception, and intuition
Date: Wednesday, January 6, 2027 Time: 6:30PM doors, 7PM stories Location: The Cooperage, 822 S Water St, Milwaukee, WI 53204 Cost: $15 advance / $20 at the door if tickets remain. Limited Pay-it-forward tickets available! Ex Fabula StorySlams are live events where community members connect and share true, personal stories related to the night’s theme, told without props or notes. Come to listen – or throw your name in the hat for a chance to share a true story related to the theme of Gut Feelings. At the end of the night, the audience votes by secret ballot to crown an Audience Favorite, who will be invited to share a story at ALL STARS in May. The audience can also be a part of the storytelling by submitting UltraShorts! These are handwritten "ultra-short" stories on the night's theme that will be read onstage by the emcee. -
AfterDark: For the Culture – A Night Celebrating Black and Brown Voices
Date: Thursday, November 19, 2026 Time: 6:30PM doors, 7PM stories Location: Radio Milwaukee, 220 E Pittsburgh Ave, Milwaukee, WI 53204 Cost: $15 advance / $20 at the door if tickets remain. Limited Pay-it-forward tickets available! In collaboration with HYFIN, this non-competitive evening of live spoken word, poetry, and storytelling celebrates Black and Brown voices and brings together a blend of curated speakers with storytellers drawn from the audience. Our featured tellers for this event are XX, YY, and ZZ! Throughout the night, you can also submit an UltraShort. These are handwritten short stories (a few sentences) on the night’s theme that the emcee reads on stage. (They can be anonymous!) HYFIN x Ex Fabula: connecting the culture through stories. We’re excited to see you. -
Coming of Age: Stories of milestones, rites of passage, and adapting as we age
