AfterDark: For The Culture - A Night Celebrating Black and Brown Voices
Date: Thursday, November 13 Time: Doors open + DJ starts at 6pm, stories begin at 7pm Location: Radio Milwaukee, 220 E Pittsburgh Ave, Milwaukee, WI 53204 Advance ticket sales are closed. In collaboration with HYFIN, this non-competitive evening of live spoken word, poetry, and storytelling celebrates Black and Brown voices and brings together a blend of curated speakers with storytellers drawn from the audience. Our featured tellers for this event are Antoine Carter, Dasha Kelly, and Fatima Laster! Throughout the night, you can also submit an UltraShort. These are short stories (a few sentences) on the night’s theme that the emcee reads on stage. (They can be anonymous!) HYFIN x Ex Fabula: connecting the culture through stories. Strangers On A…: Stories of Unforgettable Encounters: Creepy, Magical, Dangerous, or Life-Changing
Date: Tuesday, October 28, 2025 Time: 6:30pm doors, 7pm stories. Location: Next Act Theatre, 225 S Water St., Milwaukee WI 53204 Advance ticket sales are closed. To purchase tickets, visit Will Call at 6:30pm Cost: $15 at the door if tickets remain. Limited Pay-it-forward tickets available! Ex Fabula StorySlams are live events where community members connect and share true, personal stories related to the night’s theme, told without props or notes. Come to listen – or throw your name in the hat for a chance to share a true story related to the theme of "Strangers On A…" This theme was inspired by the play Switzerland about famed crime novelist Patricia Highsmith, author of Strangers on a Train. Switzerland is being performed by Renaissance Theaterworks October 19 - November 9, 2025. At the end of the night, the audience votes by secret ballot to crown an Audience Favorite, who will be invited to share a story at ALL STARS in May. The audience can also be a part of the storytelling by submitting UltraShorts! These are "ultra-short" stories on the night's theme that will be read onstage by the emcee. Ex Fabula StorySlams are live events where community members connect and share true, personal stories related to the night’s theme, told without props or notes. Come to listen – or throw your name in the hat for a chance to share a true story related to the theme of Second Chances. Date: Thursday, February 12 Time: Doors open at 5pm, workshop begins at 5:15pm Location: Radio Milwaukee, 220 E Pittsburgh Ave, Milwaukee, WI 53204 New to storytelling? Or in need of a refresh on the basics? Want to practice a story to tell at our StorySlam? This interactive workshop is for you! This workshop takes place directly before the AfterDark: For The Culture event and is meant to be a place to workshop a story you might want to tell on stage later that night. If you aren't ready to throw your name in the hat, no worries! This space is open to anyone who is interested in becoming a better storyteller, and is a perfect way for you to connect with other storytellers before our StorySlam! Take your storytelling to the next level by sharing on stage at AfterDark: For The Culture on February 12, 2026! Please note that your workshop ticket does NOT provide entry to the Slam.
