Ex Fabula recently wrapped up the seventh season of Real Stories MKE, our radio show airing on WUWM 89.7 FM. The program features stories told by community members at Ex Fabula StorySlams, repurposed into episodes focused on a specific theme. In this blog series, we’re introducing you to the people who bring Real Stories MKE to fruition every year.

Kim Shine is a co-host of Real Stories MKE, occasional emcee at Ex Fabula’s StorySlams, and one of the creators of AfterDark: For the Culture, a collaborative project between HYFIN and Ex Fabula. A Chicago native, she came to Milwaukee to work as a local television journalist after attaining a Bachelor’s in Broadcasting & Public Relations, and a Master’s in Journalism.

She got involved with Ex Fabula while looking for things to do in Milwaukee. An avid enjoyer of poetry and spoken word events, she shopped around for a while before checking out Ex Fabula. Much like co-host Joel Dresang, her tenure at Real Stories MKE began with an invite from Executive Director Megan McGee.

Kim’s favorite episode of the show is Seniors, as she appreciates the wisdom that our elders hold and values knowledge of the past in order to understand the present.

Outside of Real Stories MKE, Kim is the Senior Digital Producer at Radio Milwaukee and lead storyteller of the program Uniquely Milwaukee. Kim is the author of the book On the Other Side of Everythingfeaturing original poetry about love, anxiety, loss, freedom and empowerment.

When not working, she enjoys speaking, media coaching, going to the movies, skating, and traveling.
