Risk. Some people avoid it like the plague, taking calculated risks only when absolutely necessary. Others believe without risk there’s no real reward. On Friday, November 17th the South Milwaukee Performing Arts Center invited Ex Fabula to its beautiful stage for a special, curated Storytelling event focused on the theme “Risking It.” The event featured stories from community members – including several first-time tellers who participated in storytelling workshops earlier this fall.
Here it is, our last secret! (For now.) As many of you know, this Saturday, January 28th, Ex Fabula travels to Alverno’s Pitman Theatre for the New Year Spectacular with the theme “Our Little Secret.” Unlike our monthly Slams, this special event features 10-minute curated stories and is an afternoon (yep, a 3 pm show) not to be missed.
We’ve built the anticipation as high as possible, so let’s meet the last three Spectacular Storytellers!
The secret’s out! Our Spectacular little secret! This Saturday, January 28th, we’ll take Ex Fabula to Alverno’s Pitman Theatre for the New Year Spectacular with the theme “Our Little Secret.” Unlike our monthly StorySlams, this special event features 10-minute curated stories and is an afternoon (yep, it’s a 3 pm show) not to be missed.
However, before anyone takes the stage, we’d be remiss if we didn’t introduce the awesome Spectacular Storytellers.Continue reading “Meet the”Our Little Secret” Storytellers”
I am very excited to be joining the Ex Fabula team while serving through Public Allies Milwaukee! I started my mission here as a Public Ally to expand representation of diverse groups of people and uplift their very unique experiences. My passion for equity started far before college. I’m a first generation Chilean-American and grew up in a bilingual household. My parents raised me with strong ethics and compassion for others. Naturally I developed my desires early on.

You’ve been to a few StorySlams, attended a workshop; perhaps you’ve volunteered a time or two. Looking for another way to get involved? How about a season membership? Ex Fabula memberships were introduced at the start of Season Five and have been in full swing ever since. Kimberly sat down with Jacqueline Rice to learn more about her interest in Ex Fabula and the reasons she became a member.
Jacqueline is a Wisconsin native, librarian-at-large, mother, wife, wordsmith & caretaker of the environment. And though she’s traveled from Tobago to Tasmania, Milwaukee is her home.
Ex Fabula is all about community, so it’s only natural to involve the community in selecting themes for our Season 8 public StorySlams!
The following list of themes was created by the “Slam Lords” (f.k.a. Programming), a group of volunteers who plan our monthly Slams and fill key roles like Stage Manager and UltraShorts lead. They selected these from a master list of themes that have been suggested by audience members over the years, and now they’d like to find out which ones are your favorites!
What themes would you like to see during Season 8? Vote for up to three. Poll closes July 10!
